Home Repair Services

Fulton County offers TWO home repair and rehabilitation opportunities for residents, the Department of Senior Services Minor Home Repair Program and the Community Development Minor Home Repair Program for low to very low income homeowners.

DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR SERVICES MINOR HOME REPAIR PROGRAM

This program provides home repair services with the goal to keep seniors in their homes. There is a waiting list for this service. It may take up to 30-45 days before the contractor makes an appointment.

The repairs focus on health and safety. Repairs listed below are examples of work that may be approved:

  • Structural issues: ceiling, wall, floors, doors, windows and sealants to protect from deterioration and security modification.
  • Accessibility modification: installation of thresholds, ramps, zero step doorways, repair and installation of grab bars.
  • Plumbing: replacement of fixtures such as tub, shower, bathroom sink, or toilet.
  • Weatherization: installing storm doors, insulation, servicing heating and cooling units, and minor roof repairs.
  • Home and Exterior maintenance: removal of safety hazards, such as yard debris, fallen limbs, overgrown vegetation and replacement of window panes.
  • Qualifications: Seniors must be 55-years-old and above, own their own home, and have proof of homeowners insurance and live in Fulton County. There is no cost for this service

Department of Community Development minor home repair Program

The Minor Home Repair Program is a federally funded loan/grant program from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that is administered by Fulton County, Georgia. This program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs.

The purpose of the Minor Home Repair Program is to improve the livability of a home, to extend its life for a minimum of 10 years, and to meet the current minimum building codes, whenever possible. Major emphasis is given to housing problems affecting safety and health (such as gas leaks, outdated and hazardous electrical wiring, and plumbing).

The actual amount of repairs needed will be determined from an inspection and evaluation of the home. This type of assistance can vary depending on the needs in a home; however, not all homes can be repaired. If the home has too many major problems, it may not qualify for our minor home rehab/repair program.

What repairs are eligible for the department of Community Development minor home repair program?

Eligible repairs that will be completed through the Minor Home Repair Grant Program include the following:

  • Water heaters - Replacement or repair
  • Plumbing interior – repairs to water lines, sewer lines, toilets, etc.
  • Electrical – repair of breakers, panels, or wiring
  • Heating/cooling systems – repair, replacement or purchase/installation of wall heaters or wall A/C units
  • Roof – replacement or repair

Improvements that: 
• Change the style or colors
• Make your home "Look Like New" - most repairs are not easily seen
• Add to the size of your house
• Routine maintenance
• Landscaping
• Decks

 

what are the eligibility requirements?

  • Must be owner-occupied for a minimum of one year
  • You must qualify at 80% of the area median income
  • Priority is given to those who have not received assistance before
  • Owner may be required to live in the home for a specified period of time
